长沙 · A city guide in original photographs

Two days in
Changsha.

From neighborhood courtyards to bright shopping streets and the Xiangjiang riverfront.

Start around Wuyi Square, follow Huangxing Road toward the river, and leave a second morning for Xiyuan Beili. This is a city break with room to stop, eat and look around.

From your arrival city to Changsha

Make Changsha your next stop.

Landing in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Shenzhen? Enjoy that city first, then travel to Changsha. Each suggested 7-day plan allows 4 days in the first city, including arrival and recovery, a separate transfer day, and 2 usable sightseeing days here.

Beijing → Changsha

Start in Beijing

Arrival airports: Beijing Capital (PEK) or Beijing Daxing (PKX).

PEK, PKX and Beijing West are separate places. After an international arrival, settle into your Beijing hotel before the city days; the onward journey to Changsha has its own day.

Compare a flight from Beijing Capital (PEK) or Daxing (PKX) to Changsha Huanghua (CSX) with a train from Beijing West (北京西) to Changsha South (长沙南). Check the actual ticket and the full hotel-to-hotel journey.

Rail station names: Beijing West (北京西) → Changsha South (长沙南).

Shanghai → Changsha

Start in Shanghai

Arrival airports: Shanghai Pudong (PVG) or Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA).

Pudong Airport, Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao railway station are distinct destinations. Include the ground transfer, baggage and check-in time when comparing connections.

Compare a train from Shanghai Hongqiao (上海虹桥) to Changsha South (长沙南) with a flight from Pudong (PVG) or Hongqiao (SHA) to Changsha Huanghua (CSX). Confirm the departure airport rather than assuming it matches your international arrival.

Guangzhou → Changsha

Start in Guangzhou

Arrival airports: Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN).

Baiyun Airport (CAN) and Guangzhou South railway station are separate destinations. Start with your Guangzhou hotel and sightseeing, then use the reserved transfer day for Changsha.

Start by comparing high-speed trains from Guangzhou South (广州南) to Changsha South (长沙南). Allow for your hotel-to-station journey, security and boarding before choosing the departure.

Shenzhen → Changsha

Start in Shenzhen

Arrival airports: Shenzhen Bao'an (SZX).

Bao'an Airport (SZX) and Shenzhen North railway station are separate destinations. Choose your Shenzhen hotel for the city days, and save the correct station for the later transfer.

Start by comparing high-speed trains from Shenzhen North (深圳北) to Changsha South (长沙南). Shenzhen North is different from Shenzhen station in Luohu; follow the Chinese station name on your ticket.

Transfer day ends at your hotel. From Changsha South, compare Metro Line 2 toward Wuyi Square with a taxi to your hotel. From Huanghua Airport (CSX), compare Metro Line 6 with a transfer, or a taxi. Check in and save the hotel's Chinese address before dinner. Begin the two-day walking route the next morning.

These routes end in Changsha after Day 7; allow additional time for your next destination or return flight. Check your dated train options on China Railway 12306 and flights with the airline. Compare the whole hotel-to-hotel journey, including luggage, station or airport access and boarding time.

Flying straight to Changsha? Huanghua Airport (CSX) also has international services; availability depends on your origin and travel date. Go directly to the airport and hotel notes, and arrange arrival and departure around the two sightseeing days.

Your Changsha itinerary

One lively day. One slower morning.

Use this suggested route to combine the photographed places over two usable sightseeing days. Fit arrival and departure around the walks, and swap the days if the weather favors a morning in the lanes.

Day 01 · Central streets & riverfront

Wuyi Square → Huangxing Road → Du Fu Pavilion

  1. Late morning: Wuyi Square & IFS. Get your bearings around 五一广场, then head toward 长沙IFS国金中心. Leave time for lunch before the longer walk.
  2. Afternoon: Huangxing Square & the pedestrian street. Walk south toward 黄兴广场 and 黄兴南路步行街. Browse a section of the street, take a snack break and decide how much farther you want to walk.
  3. Late afternoon or evening: Du Fu Pavilion. Navigate west toward 杜甫江阁 on the riverfront. Pick the route from your actual position on the pedestrian street; use a car if you have had enough walking.

Only one day? Keep this central route. Skip the station detour and save Xiyuan Beili for a return visit.

Day 02 · Neighborhood lanes

Xiyuan Beili, then an unhurried departure

  1. Morning: Xiyuan Beili. Save 西园北里 in your map app and travel to this separate neighborhood north of the main shopping district. Visit in daylight for the courtyards and signs.
  2. Lunch & a flexible afternoon. Choose somewhere along your route back. Revisit a stop you enjoyed, or leave the afternoon open if rain slowed Day 1.
  3. Optional: Changsha railway station. The station exterior suits a quick photo stop if you are already arriving, departing or staying nearby. Otherwise, use the time for the neighborhood.

Late arrival or early train? Treat this as a menu. The railway station photo is not a reason to miss your actual departure.

01 / Wuyi Square & IFS · 五一广场 / 长沙IFS国金中心

Start with the city at full volume.

Wuyi Square is the orientation point for this central-city route. IFS is a separate landmark in the surrounding shopping district: use its own map pin when you want the tower and street-level view shown here.

The photograph catches a wet road, a bright vertical screen and people crossing beneath the tower. It gives you a useful sense of the setting: large intersections and busy commercial streets, with plenty to look at before you reach the pedestrian area.

After finding your bearings, walk south toward Huangxing Square. A meal break here makes the rest of the afternoon easier than trying to photograph every landmark without stopping.

Save these names: 五一广场 = Wuyi Square. 长沙IFS国金中心 = Changsha IFS. They belong to the same outing, but are not interchangeable pickup points.

IFS and the surrounding streets. This photo shows the shopping district, rather than Wuyi Square itself.

02 / Huangxing Square & pedestrian street · 黄兴广场 / 黄兴南路步行街

Follow the signs, then take a food break.

The statue at Huangxing Square makes a recognizable meeting point. From here, explore the pedestrian street in short stretches: shopfronts, signs and the activity at street level are the attraction. You do not need to cover every block to enjoy it.

Leave room to choose food when you arrive. Check the menu and price before ordering, and ask for less chili if you prefer it. If a queue would consume your afternoon, try another nearby option and keep time for the riverfront.

03 / Du Fu Pavilion · 杜甫江阁

Finish the main walk beside the river.

Du Fu Pavilion is the layered-roof building in the cover photograph. It stands beside the Xiangjiang River, making it a natural final stop after the central shopping streets. The broad steps and roofline give the daytime view a very different feel from the towers around IFS.

Choose the visit you want

Keep an exterior photo stop and a short riverfront walk as the simple version of the itinerary. If you want to enter the pavilion, check the current admission arrangements separately. Allow extra time if you stay into the evening for the illuminated view.

Use the correct map name

Search 杜甫江阁 (Du Fu Pavilion). The photograph on this page shows the Changsha landmark. Use this exact Chinese name to avoid choosing a different Du Fu attraction in another city.

Check current admission and lighting arrangements before planning your evening around them.

04 / Xiyuan Beili · 西园北里

Make space for the smaller streets.

Xiyuan Beili changes the scale of the trip. In these photographs, a large tree shades a paved courtyard, balconies look onto the lane and neighborhood maps are mounted on the walls. Give this stop a daylight morning rather than squeezing it between evening shopping plans.

Find the neighborhood entrance, look at the posted directory, then follow the lanes at your own pace. The signs are useful for recognizing Chinese place names, even when your phone translates them differently.

Keep doorways clear and ask before photographing people closely. A courtyard can be part of everyday residential life as well as an interesting place to visit; an open gate does not automatically mean a building is open to visitors.

Route choice: travel here as a separate outing. Save 西园北里 as your destination instead of assuming it is the next block along Huangxing Road.

Beyond the two-day core

More time for the island and Yuelu.

The original central-city walks fill two sightseeing days. Add days or swap an outing for Orange Isle and the Yuelu area, keeping arrival and departure separate. These supplementary photographs have their own source credits.

Orange Isle · 橘子洲

Give the island a separate outing. Choose a manageable section, check current access and transport, and allow time to return for dinner. The sculpture is one landmark within a larger outdoor visit.

Yuelu Academy · 岳麓书院

For a cultural visit in a longer stay, check the academy’s admission arrangements before setting the day’s order. A visit here does not require a full Yuelu Mountain walk; choose the combination that suits your group.

05 / Changsha railway station · 长沙站

A station photo, and a name to double-check.

The night photograph shows Changsha railway station’s clock tower reflected on wet paving. It is a good optional stop when the station is already part of your journey. Take exterior photos from the public pedestrian area and keep luggage and departure time in mind.

Changsha is not Changsha South

长沙站 / Changsha railway station is the station shown here. 长沙南站 / Changsha South / Changshanan is a different destination. Match the Chinese station name on your ticket before ordering a car or entering the metro.

Metro Line 2 connects both railway stations with Wuyi Square. Follow the station signs and check the direction for your destination. At Changsha station, confirm your entrance or pickup side rather than assuming every exit leads to the clock-tower view.

Flying in · CSX

Changsha Huanghua Airport

Metro Line 6 serves the airport; reaching Wuyi Square requires a transfer, such as to Line 2 at Yingbin Road. Check your terminal and current service before setting off. With a late arrival or heavy luggage, compare that journey with the signed taxi or confirmed DiDi pickup.

Save the hotel’s Chinese name and address offline before you travel.

Where to stay

Use Wuyi Square as your starting search area

For this particular route, we suggest comparing hotels around Wuyi Square or a useful nearby metro stop. Check the actual walk from the station, luggage access and recent comments about street noise; being closest to nightlife is not always best for sleeping.

For an early train, weigh that central base against staying near the exact departure station.

Before you set off

A few details make the walk easier.

Rain & crowds

Several photos show wet paving. Wear shoes with grip and shorten the riverfront walk in heavy rain. If a shopping street is crowded, keep a clear meeting point and leave more time between stops.

Food & payment

For less chili, show 请少放辣椒. This is a preference, not an allergy guarantee. Check ingredients separately when needed, test your payment setup early and keep a backup.

Names & pickup points

Save each Chinese destination and your hotel address. For a car pickup, choose a reachable road outside the pedestrian section and confirm the pin with the driver.

Before, during & after your city stay

Where Changsha fits in your journey.

Arrive & settle in

Match your arrival airport or station to your booking, save the hotel address in Chinese and leave time for luggage and check-in. A late arrival means a nearby meal and rest.

Count usable days

This city guide counts sightseeing days. Arrange arrival before the walks and departure afterward, or shorten the route to fit your tickets.

Leave or continue

Confirm your next hotel or departure ticket before adding another city. Returning to your first city requires its own transport and time; it is not automatically included.

These complete routes show how Changsha connects with other stops. Choose a route to open its full itinerary; incoming routes are not suggestions to travel in reverse.
