西安 / A connected city stay

Xi'anAncient walls. An army of stories.

City walls, the Terracotta Army and a slower look at an ancient capital, with arrival and onward travel built in.

Start with the journey in

Arriving in Xi'an.

Give Xi'an three full sightseeing days between arrival and departure. Keep the walled center, the Terracotta Army excursion and the southern pagoda area on separate days: they are different parts of the trip, not stops on one walking tour. A five-day stay gives each room without turning every evening into another booking.

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY)

Check XIY on flight bookings and the exact Chinese station name on rail tickets. Xi'an North (西安北) and Xi'an station (西安站) are different arrival points.

Flying into XIY

Xi'an Xianyang Airport is outside the historic center. Follow terminal signs for metro or the official taxi rank, then use your hotel's Chinese address to finish the journey. Metro Line 14 serves the airport; check the terminal station and your onward interchange before boarding. A late landing should end with check-in and a nearby meal.

Arriving from another Chinese city

After landing in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Shenzhen, compare a domestic flight with a train for your actual date. A booking to Xi'an North is not a booking to the central Xi'an station. Reserve the whole hotel-to-hotel transfer day and keep the Terracotta Army for the following morning or later.

First evening

Stay close to your hotel, save the return route and test data and payment. If you are based centrally, use the Bell Tower area for a short orientation walk. Seeing the towers from outside is a useful first evening even when a ticketed interior visit does not fit.

Choose one useful base

Where to stay.

Bell Tower / South Gate

A practical base for the wall, central streets and evening meals. Compare the actual walk from the hotel to a metro entrance, and ask about street noise if your room faces a busy road. Choose a short arrival walk instead of carrying luggage across the old center.

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda area

Consider southern Xi'an if the pagoda and surrounding public spaces are priorities. You will still travel separately to the wall and the Terracotta Army. Pick one base for the stay rather than changing hotels to cover each district.

5 days · Arrival + 3 sightseeing + departure

Your Xi'an route, day by day.

Arrival and departure are part of this stay. Adjust sightseeing around confirmed admission slots and the weather. The planner opens this same route; changing its style or length changes the daily suggestions.

  1. Day 1arrival

    Arrival inside the ancient-capital rhythm

    Morning

Check in and save the hotel and nearest gate in Chinese.

    Afternoon

Take a short orientation walk near the Bell or Drum Tower area.

    Evening

Choose a simple local dinner without a long cross-city trip.

Follow your actual arrival time. Leave luggage or check in when the hotel allows; a late arrival replaces the outing with a nearby meal and rest.

  2. Day 2sightseeing

    City Wall and central axis

    Morning

Explore a manageable section of the City Wall around Yongningmen (永宁门).

    Afternoon

Continue toward the Bell and Drum Tower area (钟楼 / 鼓楼).

    Evening

Walk a nearby food street while keeping payment backup ready.

  3. Day 3sightseeing

    Terracotta Army day

    Morning

Travel to Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum (秦始皇帝陵博物院) using your confirmed admission and transfer arrangements.

    Afternoon

Keep the afternoon focused on the same historical complex and return.

    Evening

    Rest after the journey.

Confirm current ticketing and transport before departure.

  4. Day 4sightseeing

    Pagodas and southern Xi'an

    Morning

Visit the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda / Da Ci’en Temple area (大雁塔 / 大慈恩寺), checking ticketed access in advance.

    Afternoon

Use the afternoon for gardens, public space, or a family-friendly indoor backup.

  5. Day 5departure

    Departure buffer and final meal

    Morning

Use a relaxed breakfast and pack before sightseeing.

    Afternoon

Confirm whether the ticket uses Xi'an North or another station and protect transfer time.

Your ticket time takes priority. An early departure replaces the outing; collect luggage and leave time for the hotel-to-station or airport journey.

City Wall and the central streets

Begin with a manageable wall section around the South Gate area, then leave time for a seated lunch. Treat the Bell and Drum Tower neighborhood as the next central-city walk. Exploring part of the wall is enough; completing a circuit is not a requirement for enjoying it.

Check the open gate and ticket arrangements before setting out. In heat or rain, shorten the exposed wall walk.

Terracotta Army

Set aside a dedicated excursion day for the museum in the Lintong area. Arrange the outward and return transport together and carry the identity document used for the reservation. Keep the afternoon with the museum visit and return journey, rather than adding another distant attraction.

Use the museum's official booking guidance below. A city-center hotel does not put you next to the museum.

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda

The pagoda and temple area make a separate southern-city day. Decide whether you want the ticketed cultural visit or a lighter walk through the surrounding public spaces. Allow time to understand the site, then stop for a meal instead of rushing back across the city.

Check admission for the temple and any pagoda access separately; do not plan around an assumed fountain-show time.

Food streets around the Drum Tower

Use the lanes for an unhurried food outing, comparing menus and choosing several small dishes if that suits your group. Respect worship spaces and ask before photographing people. The busiest stall need not determine the whole evening; a seated meal can be a better end to a long museum day.

Confirm ingredients and prices before ordering. Ask explicitly about dietary needs rather than relying on a translated dish name.

Between Beijing and Shanghai

The ten-day route places Xi'an between two larger gateway cities. It gives Xi'an two full sightseeing days after the inbound transfer, so choose the wall and Terracotta Army before adding the pagoda day. If flying home from your first city, add a separate return leg.

A connected route is a complete itinerary, not an extra segment automatically added to this stay. Use your actual tickets to allow for checkout, station or airport travel, boarding, luggage and the next check-in. A return to your first city needs its own time.

Before, during & after your city stay

Where Xi'an fits in your journey.

Arrive & settle in

Match your arrival airport or station to your booking, save the hotel address in Chinese and leave time for luggage and check-in. A late arrival means a nearby meal and rest.

Count usable days

The city planner includes arrival on Day 1 and a departure buffer on the final day. Those days allow short local outings, not full sightseeing schedules.

Leave or continue

Confirm your next hotel or departure ticket before adding another city. Returning to your first city requires its own transport and time; it is not automatically included.
