重庆 / A connected city stay

ChongqingRiverfront layers and quieter hill paths.

Nine original photographs connect Hongyadong, Jiefangbei, Eling, Guanyinqiao, Ciqikou and Chaotianmen in a five-day city stay.

Start with the journey in

Arriving in Chongqing.

This photo collection moves from Hongyadong’s layered facades to Eling’s shaded stones, then out to Guanyinqiao and Ciqikou. Build the trip around those different districts. The five-day stay protects arrival and departure, with three sightseeing days for the central peninsula, Eling with an optional Guanyinqiao evening, and Ciqikou. Use transit between districts: this is not one continuous walking route.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG)

Check CKG and your terminal for flights. For rail, follow the full station name on the ticket; Chongqing North (重庆北), West (重庆西) and East (重庆东) are different places.

Airport arrival

At Jiangbei Airport, follow the signs for the current rail, bus or official taxi options serving your terminal. Save both your hotel's Chinese address and its entrance instructions. A taxi drop-off at the wrong road level can leave an unexpected luggage walk, so ask the hotel where cars should stop.

From Chengdu or a gateway city

For Chengdu, compare dated train services and the exact arrival station. After an overseas landing in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Shenzhen, compare domestic air and rail before choosing the onward leg. Keep this as a transfer day: the first priority is reaching the correct hotel entrance.

Learn one route before dark

After check-in, find the nearest useful metro entrance and trace a short route back to the hotel. Save the entrance photo or written directions offline. Dinner nearby is enough after a long journey; the riverfront can wait for a full sightseeing day.

Choose one useful base

Where to stay.

Jiefangbei / Xiaoshizi

A useful base for a first visit centered on the Yuzhong peninsula, Hongyadong and the river views. Check the exact building entrance, floor, lift access and nearest practical metro exit before booking. Being geographically close does not guarantee a flat walk.

Guanyinqiao

Consider this alternative for shops and restaurants if you are comfortable using transit to the central river sights. For either neighborhood, assess luggage and step-free access with the hotel directly; a general neighborhood recommendation cannot establish accessibility for an individual building.

5 days · Arrival + 3 sightseeing + departure

Your Chongqing route, day by day.

Arrival and departure are part of this stay. Adjust sightseeing around confirmed admission slots and the weather. The planner opens this same route; changing its style or length changes the daily suggestions.

  1. Day 1arrival

    Arrival and vertical-city orientation

    Morning

Check in and save the hotel entrance—not only the street address—in Chinese.

    Afternoon

Walk one nearby level of the district and learn the closest metro entrance.

    Evening

Choose dinner without another steep cross-city transfer.

Follow your actual arrival time. Leave luggage or check in when the hotel allows; a late arrival replaces the outing with a nearby meal and rest.

  2. Day 2sightseeing

    Jiefangbei, Chaotianmen and Hongyadong

    Morning

Start around Jiefangbei (解放碑), then head toward Chaotianmen (朝天门) if current public access permits.

    Afternoon

Explore a manageable part of Hongyadong (洪崖洞) in daylight, with a meal break and transport between levels if needed.

    Evening

An optional Hongyadong night return depends on energy and current crowd controls; save your route home.

The guide photo shows construction at Chaotianmen when photographed, not current access. Follow present-day signs and shorten the route as needed.

  3. Day 3sightseeing

Eling Park and an optional Guanyinqiao evening

    Morning

Choose a manageable walk in Eling Park (鹅岭公园), with time for shaded paths and stone markers.

    Afternoon

Take a long lunch and rest. Eling Second Factory or Liziba are alternatives only if you replace part of the day and check the route.

    Evening

If energy allows, travel by metro or taxi to Guanyinqiao (观音桥) for dinner, saving the return route; it is a separate district.

Eling Park and Eling Second Factory are different places. Check steps and entrances rather than relying on flat map distance.

  4. Day 4sightseeing

Ciqikou lanes and a flexible afternoon

    Morning

Travel to Ciqikou (磁器口) for the teapot sculpture and a measured walk through the surrounding lanes.

    Afternoon

Have a seated lunch, compare menus and prices, and keep time for the return journey or a rest.

Ciqikou is a separate district outing; do not add it as a quick stop before a timed departure.

  5. Day 5departure

    Departure without a final climb

    Morning

Pack first and choose a nearby breakfast.

    Afternoon

Confirm the station or airport entrance and preserve a generous transfer buffer.

Your ticket time takes priority. An early departure replaces the outing; collect luggage and leave time for the hotel-to-station or airport journey.

Give each place its own time

Places worth building a day around.

Use these notes for the daily route above, or swap in an alternative. This is a menu of places, not a list to finish in one day. Photographs record earlier visits; current access and services may differ. Original ChinaPass photos and credited external photos are identified below. Select a photograph for a larger view.

01 / 解放碑

Jiefangbei: start with the city center

The monument sits between much taller contemporary buildings in the photograph, making an easy visual anchor for the first central-city walk. Start after breakfast, orient yourself around the surrounding streets and allow a meal break before heading toward the river. Save the metro entrance or hotel route you will use later, rather than relying on the monument alone to navigate home.

Jiefangbei, Chaotianmen and Hongyadong fit the same district-focused day, but changes in road level and crowds may call for transport or a shorter route.

Hongyadong in daylight, with an optional night return

These daylight photographs show the tiered facades, the larger cliffside setting and a close-up of rockwork and water. They reveal details that can be lost in a night-view checklist. Explore a manageable section, taking note of which level you enter and leave. If you return for the lights, make that your one main evening outing and follow the current pedestrian controls.

The photographs are daytime views. An evening return is an editorial suggestion, not a claim that this collection records the illuminated scene.

Chaotianmen: follow present-day access

Use Chaotianmen as the river-end stop of the central day if current access permits. The supplied photograph records the square's name with construction hoarding behind it. That is useful context for how much a place can change, but not a basis for saying the square is either open or closed now. Follow current signs and use an accessible public river-view area instead if necessary.

Confirm access before making a timed cruise or viewing-deck booking. A square visit does not include either of those separate activities.

Eling: trees, stone markers and a slower morning

The two Eling photographs focus on garden paths and stone inscriptions beneath trees. Make this the quieter second sightseeing day, with time to sit down and choose a manageable route. Eling Park and Eling Second Factory are distinct destinations: the photographed park marker is not evidence of a visit to the creative park. Add Second Factory or Liziba only if you want to replace part of this day and have checked the hills and transport.

Do not use a short map distance as a promise of an easy walk. Ask about steps and suitable entrances, especially with luggage or limited mobility.

Guanyinqiao: a separate evening district

The evening plaza photograph gives the guide another side of Chongqing, beyond the central riverfront. After the Eling morning and an afternoon rest, travel to Guanyinqiao for dinner and a short commercial-district walk if you still have energy. It is a separate cross-city leg, so use metro or a taxi and save the return address. Staying near your hotel is an equally reasonable end to the day.

Check the exact restaurant or meeting point in the larger district. The photographed plaza is a place reference, not a promised performance or event.

Ciqikou: leave time beyond the teapot

The large teapot sculpture makes a distinctive photo stop, but leave time for a slower look at the surrounding lanes. Use the third sightseeing day for Ciqikou, with a seated lunch and a flexible afternoon. It is a separate district outing from Jiefangbei and Hongyadong, not a nearby lane to add before catching a train. Compare menus and prices and choose the route back before the group is tired.

If your stay is shorter, choose Ciqikou instead of another sightseeing day. Shibati is an alternative central old-street walk, not the same place.

Liziba: an optional monorail stop

The train-through-a-building view belongs to Liziba, a different stop from Eling Park. Choose it as a replacement for part of the Eling day, or allow more time in a longer stay. Check the route from your actual starting point; a short distance on the map can include slopes and stairs.

Use designated viewing space and leave station entrances clear. The photo shows the railway setting, not a guaranteed train time or a required viewpoint.

Return to Chengdu or fly onward

If your international flight leaves Chengdu, the journey is not finished at Chongqing's hotel checkout. Add the return train or flight and the correct TFU / CTU transfer, with an overnight buffer when appropriate. If leaving from CKG, confirm the terminal and protect the airport journey from a final sightseeing climb.
